Dragon
NaturallySpeaking Medical delivers on the promise of speech
recognition in healthcare with the highest accuracy, ease-of-use and
flexibility. Not only is this new release over 25% more accurate
than the previous release, but NaturallySpeaking Medical also
includes a complete library of 14 medical specialty vocabularies:
Radiology, Cardiology, Surgery, General Medical, Family Practice,
ObGyn, Neurology, Pathology, Orthopedic, Emergency, Mental Health,
Oncology, Pediatrics and Gastroenterology. The product includes
tools to further customize vocabularies for a specific practice so
you can fine tune the performance for unique medical terms and
conditions.
Dragon
NaturallySpeaking 8 is the most powerful and easiest to use speech
recognition product ever developed for healthcare professional use.
After just a five minute enrollment, users can dictate into
Microsoft Word templates or computerized patient records
applications with unprecedented simplicity.
You can
also use Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical to “command and control”
PC applications, such as navigating screens or browsing menu
options. Plus, you can dictate into virtually any device, including
a headset microphone (which comes free with all boxes of Dragon
NaturallySpeaking Medical), a Philips SpeechMike (which acts as both
a microphone and mouse in one) or a handheld device, such as a
Pocket PC or digital recorder. It’s never been easier to combine the
mouse, keyboard, and voice to create instant and highly accurate
clinical documents.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical is also, more than ever, a
true enterprise application. A native MSI file allows for push
installs in large enterprise networks, and a new “roaming user”
feature enables healthcare professionals to instantly access Dragon
NaturallySpeaking from any machine on the LAN.

Dr.
Jeffrey Ries, an osteopathic neurologist in Southern California, had
a three-day turnaround time using an outside transcription service
for patient notes and other medical paperwork. After purchasing
Dragon NaturallySpeaking and Zephyr-TEC training and integration his
turnaround is never more than a day. Outside transcription services
used to cost him $2500 per month; these fees have been eliminated
with NaturallySpeaking. As an added benefit, he can see Dragon
transcribe his dictation immediately and his staff can process it on
the same day.
Zephyr-TEC trained Dr. Ries to use NaturallySpeaking and set
up several commands and templates to facilitate his dictation.
Moving through the documents is easy with commands that allow him to
jump to different fields. Letters for medical groups, disability
groups, and workers compensation paperwork are now all handled with
speech recognition software.
Dr.
Ries found it challenging to use at first, especially when he was
tired at the end of a long day. However, he has found that with
practice, he has learned to speak more evenly and finds
NaturallySpeaking very accurate. The improved turn-around-time and
cost reduction has left Dr. Ries extremely satisfied with the
results.

With the Roaming User (a great way to work on a network
and have your profile stored on one computer), one of the annoying
things in the original release of Version 8 was that you had to use
a mapped network drive (e.g. "Y:/DNS8Roam") rather than a UNC path
(e.g. \\ztsmdc1\data\DNS8Roam). This was annoying because you
couldn't just browse to the location in the window; you had to map a
network drive first. This has been fixed in the patch to 8.1. With
8.1, you can just use a UNC path (and thus just browse to the
location). You can access the patch via the Internet through your
NaturallySpeaking Help menu, Check for
Updates.
