The Challenge - Legibility and Cost Most of the physicians in the medical group hand wrote their patient notes in the medical documents and charts. Due to the sheer volume of patients in the busy clinics, doctors struggled to keep up with their notes. Often reports were illegible and used nonstandard abbreviations which resulted in decreased billings. The doctors that didn't handwrite notes used an expensive transcription service. Years ago, Bristol Park had looked into speech recognition software. Additionally, the hardware of the time was not up to the task.
